Operation Food Search – a not-for-profit hunger relief organization – and the St. Louis Area Foodbank – the bi-state region’s largest non-profit food provider – are making history…together. For the first time since both organizations were founded, they will unite to host a food distribution event called “Thanksgiving Together.” This holiday event will be held Tues., Nov. 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on a SP+ Parking lot located at 611 S. 8th St. near Busch Stadium. Food vouchers will be given in advance to 1,000 families in need so they can receive all the necessary ingredients to create an entire Thanksgiving meal from start to finish. The St. Louis Area Foodbank will provide a total of 1,000 ready-to-cook turkeys and hams plus holiday boxes filled with a variety of complementary accompaniments for a complete holiday meal. The Foodbank will distribute more than 30,000 pounds of food including macaroni and cheese, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, and other nutritious items.
The Fit and Food Connection provides healthy living resources through nutrition and physical fitness to families in need. This is provided to encourage participation across the broadest possible spectrum of economic levels in northern St. Louis. Since 2013, FAFC has provided assistance to bring food and fitness together with group and individual fitness classes, nutrition programs, emergency groceries, food pantry, and community gardening opportunities. The connection of food provision, lifestyle programming and coaching, and education is a dynamic solution to address general poverty’s impact on health.
